WHO AFROSTEPS From simple survey to a comprehensive surveillance tool of(NCD) risk factors designed for LMICS
Descarregar PDFKey messages • STEPS is a WHO tool designed to facilitate the surveillance of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by collecting data on key risk factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, physical inactivity, dietary habits, raised blood pressure, raised blood glucose and population level salt consumption • The objectives of STEPS are to identify risk factors, monitor trends, and inform public policies by collecting precise and comparable data at the national, regional, or local level. • The STEPS consists of three main modules: a questionnaire on behavioural risk factors, physical measurements, and biochemical measurements, thereby providing a comprehensive range of information on NCDs risk factors. • Executing STEPS involves crucial stages, including planning, data gathering, analysis, and reporting, all of which contribute to ensuring the credibility and accuracy of the data collected. • Advantages of STEPS include standardized methods, data reliability, and comprehensive information on NCD risk factors, empowering countries to make informed decisions on public health and effectively guide their efforts in NCD prevention and control. • Since it first launches in the region, all countries in the Region have implemented STEPS at least once except Burundi, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea Bissau and South Soudan. However, only 24 countries have implemented the tool during the last decade, which makes it difficult to use recent data to fight against non-transmissible diseases more effectively. • No country succeeds to repeat the survey every 5 years as recommended by WHO
Knowledge Generation Workshops-May 2023 Report
Descarregar PDFAll countries participating in the workshop had their capacity strengthened to produce knowledge products. At the end of the workshop, 34 knowledge products were finalized involving five distinct types: Analytical Fact Sheets, Knowledge Fact Sheets, Blogs, Policy Briefs, and Infographics. This attempt signifies a significant step forward in equipping NHOs with the tools and skills necessary to generate valuable knowledge products that can advance health information and evidence-based decision-making. The knowledge products touch on different health topics and issues from countries, as summarized below (Table 1). All countries planned the number and types of knowledge products to be developed from Quarter 2 2023 to Quarter 4 2024, which will be achieved with WHO/AFRO support (Table 2).
iAHO Knowledge Production Workshops Report - September 2022

National Health Workforce Accounts: a Handbook
Descarregar PDFThe NHWA contains a set of 90 core indicators, divided over 10 modules. The purpose of the NHWA is to facilitate the standardization of a health workforce information system in order to improve data quality, as well as to support tracking HRH policy performance towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC).To achieve this goal, NHWA fulfills the following objectives: • Generate reliable HRH information and evidence; • Enable the planning, implementation and monitoring of workforce policies towards UHC; • Improve the comparability of the health workforce nationally, regionally and globally; and • Enable research to be performed about future trends regarding health workforce, systems and resilience planning. NHWA is relevant for national, regional and global stake¬holders. In particular, it can enable countries to develop evidence-based policies and plans for their health workforce and better understand and present their health workforce (HWF) data.
